Our story

A movement for menstrual health, dignity and opportunity

Mkhana Collective is a Kenyan social enterprise building practical, sustainable and locally produced menstrual health solutions. We believe access to menstrual products is only part of the solution, girls and women also need education, confidence and consistent support.

That is why we created the Mkhana Kit, combining biodegradable period pads with the Bloom Period Journal to provide structured menstrual health support for six months or a full year. Every kit distributed contributes towards our vision of reaching 1 billion pads by 2030.

Because menstrual dignity should not depend on where a girl lives, what she earns or whether she can afford her next packet of pads.

What we do

Practical solutions that keep girls in school, women at work and communities supported.

Mkhana combines menstrual products, education, local production and community-based distribution to create long-term menstrual health support. Our work is built around access, dignity, sustainability and measurable impact.

01
our approach

Consistency creates dignity

Many girls and women receive one-time support that runs out quickly. Mkhana focuses on structured menstrual health support through Half-Year and Full-Year Kits.

Each kit combines biodegradable period pads with menstrual health education, ensuring beneficiaries receive both practical supplies and information they can use. Our model is designed to move beyond one-off donations toward consistent support, better tracking and long-term impact.

bloom period journal

Track cycles. Build confidence. Understand your body.

The Bloom Period Journal is a menstrual health education and tracking tool designed to help girls and women better understand their bodies. Many healthcare professionals have described the menstrual cycle as a "fifth vital sign", it provides important insights into a girl’s or woman’s overall health and well-being.

By encouraging cycle tracking, symptom monitoring and self-awareness, the journal helps girls and women become active participants in their own health.

distribution

Reaching girls and women where they are.

Mkhana distributes kits through schools, communities and partner-led initiatives. Our first Mkhana Kit distribution supports 100 girls and women through to the end of 2026. This milestone includes:

100 Half-Year Kits
100 Bloom Period Journals
